2 min readApr 21, 2022

A graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine, Dr. Normal Rowe is currently a plastic surgeon at Rowe Plastic Surgery in New York. Dr. Normal Rowe can repair and fix a wide range of problems with his plastic and reconstructive surgery skills, including breast ptosis.

Breast ptosis, also known as sagging of the breasts or droopy breasts, is a condition that occurs in women in which the breasts and nipples droop. When the nipple is at the same level as the fold of the breasts, a woman suffers from first-degree breast ptosis, and when it is lower than the fold, the woman suffers from second-degree breast ptosis. The most complicated case of breast ptosis occurs when the nipple is pointed downwards. It is a very common condition and can be treated with a breast lift or autologous internal breast splint.

A breast lift aims to find a proper breast silhouette and fix it by reshaping the curve of the breast. During this procedure, the plastic surgeon remounts the mammary gland and fixes the areolar-nipple area to sit right and straight. At times, a breast lift procedure can involve breast implants. The autologous internal breast splint is performed on women who have breast implants and suffer from breast ptosis. In this procedure, the plastic surgeon performs a capsulotomy, in which they remove the implant through the already existing incisions. The surgeon then introduces a new implant that is elevated and medialized in the submuscular position.
